The Veterans’ Administration offers a Special Pension with Aid and Attendance (A&A) benefit that is largely unknown.
This Special Pension is part of the VA Improved Pension program. It allows for veterans and surviving spouses who require elder care at home, in-home nursing, home care for the disabled, and other services to receive monetary benefits. It also includes patients who require care in a nursing home because of mental or physical incapacity. Care in an assisted living facility also qualifies.
This important benefit is often overlooked by families of veterans and their surviving spouses. This is a “pension benefit” and is not dependent upon service-related injuries for compensation. Aid and Attendance (A&A) can help pay for care at home, or care in a nursing home or assisted living facility.
